Welcome To Confident Companions
My name is Leah Cook, and I am the founder and head trainer of Confident Companions.
After my dog and I were attacked by a dog in 2011, it became my mission to help as many people as possible, prevent or modify fearful, defensive, or aggressive dog behavior.
Whether you want help with proactive puppy training, obedience training, off-leash reliability, or if your dog's behavior has become a safety concern, my team and I are ready to help you navigate any of these challenges with confidence and clarity!

Leah is absolutely amazing with dogs and I would not trust my pup to with anybody else!! She has excellent business integrity, she was able to easily identify the issues we were having with our pup and come up with safe, effective, and easy-to-implement solutions. Other dog trainers we talked with wanted thousands of dollars up front for multiple training sessions even before meeting us or our dog. Leah was not like that, she met with us once and determined we would likely only need 1 training session and she was completely right! Her prices are very fair and reasonable (much more so than other dog training companies). I highly recommend her!! Don’t use anybody else!

Our First Step
Before any training begins, we need to start with an initial consultation, so we can sit down and talk to you about what's going on.
Dogs, like people, aren’t programmable, and changing the behavior of sentient beings isn’t as simple as rebooting a computer. The ugly and often unspoken truth is that training can’t fix everything, no matter how hard we try. I do not run my business on false hope or unethical marketing claims. Any trainer on my team is going to tell you the truth so you can make an informed decision on what’s best for your dog and your family.
During the initial consultation, which is typically 60-75 minutes in length, we will take a thorough behavioral history so we can develop a clear picture of the entire scope of your situation, and give you an accurate prognosis. After taking the behavioral history, and performing any necessary assessments, we will explain what is going on, discuss reasonable goals, and immediate management procedures, and will advise you on what needs to be done for long-term success.
The cost of the initial consultation is $200.

I contacted Leah to help with the introduction of a new puppy into our pack. One of our dogs is older and not very patient with puppies. Our other dog is not comfortable in the presence of strange dogs. We wanted to avoid problems between our dogs and the puppy before they occurred. I am very glad we found Leah. She really listened to me and acknowledged my fears. She understood my concerns and embraced my goals. Leah has a keen ability to read people as well as their dogs. She developed a clear, step-by-step plan that was easy to understand and follow. She also helped me become a more confident handler and filled my training bag with problem solving skills. Our pack is developing a good relationship and learning how to exist together in our home. Do not wait until you have a problem to call Leah. You will not be disappointed.

Follow Up Training
For training to be effective, we must focus on the needs and motivations of that particular individual. This is especially true for our companion dogs who are struggling with daily life. Because of this, our follow-up training consists of 1:1 private coaching sessions that are customized to fit your dog's needs.
During each private coaching session, you will receive instruction on how to understand and work with your dog, which is key to your long-term success. As your dog's partner, learning how to monitor changes in his behavior and emotional state will enable you to proactively work through issues if and when they arise. We want to make sure you can confidently and independently work with your dog, long after your work with us is finished.
Private coaching is offered in multi-session packages. Packages typically range from four to ten sessions, but the number of sessions needed will be unique to your situation and your dog's training needs. One of the main reasons we do packages, rather than letting people pay as they go, is because working through behavioral change programs can be emotionally draining at times, and it requires commitment and consistency. Making the financial commitment to your dog's training program will help you stick with it, do the work, and reach your goals.
The cost of each private coaching session is $150.

Leah is an absolutely wonderful trainer, and an even better human. She was kind enough to take my puppy for her puppy program while I was out of the country and did a stellar job laying a foundation from which I could build. My puppy, Rogue, was fully integrated into her household - Leah was kind enough to customize her training to suit our needs, focusing on cooperative care, crate training, general socialization, settling around the house, and just learning to be a good citizen canine. Leah is generous with her time, and patient, but most importantly, she has a way with each and every dog she works with. You'll never regret working with her - she builds the program you and your dog need, and both you and your dog will come out better for having worked with her. I've ever so grateful for the work Leah did and would never hesitate to recommend her!

When & Where We Train
As many of you already know, some behavior problems only happen within specific contexts or under certain conditions, so that is where we have to do our work.
Whether you need help at home, in your neighborhood, around town, or in a controlled environment, our sessions will take place in those environments so that you get the help you need, where you need it most.
Training sessions typically take place once a week so we can help you stay on track, and make sure you are progressing at a good rate. To accommodate most schedules, we offer morning and evening appointments Monday through Friday.
